New Factory Expansion Ranked As One of Top 10 Great Economic Development Projects in Pierce County, WA
Carlson Paving Products, Inc., an Astec Industries Company, has been named a recipient of the Excellent 10 Award by the Tacoma Economic Development Board. The coveted recognition was given during the Tacoma EDB’s Annual Meeting held at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center.
“We are honored to receive this award,” stated Chris Colwell, President of Carlson Paving Products, following the annual meeting. “This expansion to our facility is not just about Carlson, but about continued growth of our region and creation of family wage jobs here in Pierce County. We are truly humbled by the Tacoma EDB and Pierce County Executive Bruce Dammeier’s recognition of our company’s expansion and the positive impact our growth will have on the region.”
Carlson’s expansion is set to help Carlson meet the growing demand for its products domestically and internationally, with its manufacturing foot print nearly tripling from 45,000 sq. ft. to 125,000 sq. ft. In addition to the new fabrication and assembly space, the expansion also adds new office space, a paint/power coating system, and a formal lobby. The project is slated for completion in 2020.
The award, given to ten great economic development projects in Pierce County, is voted on by Tacoma EDB’s executive committee. Recipient projects range from industrial and office expansions to educational facilities to sewer infrastructure, or from hospitals to museums, according to the Tacoma EDB’s website. This year’s recipients included the Pacific Seas Aquarium, Tacoma’s Pantages Theater Renovation and the Super Post-Panamax Cranes at the Port of Tacoma.
